This may well be my last blog post, ever. You see, tomorrow I am running my first post-second-pregnancy 5k. “Big deal!” all you healthy, exercising bloggers say. I hear ya. But see, I gave birth 10 weeks ago, and have done little-to-nothing in the way of exercise since then. And I sure wasn’t keeping up with the exercising while I was preggo!
So here’s the deal: I know this race isn’t going to be a “race” for me – it’s just gonna be a kick in the much-too-large-pants to get myself seriously back into the exercising swing of things. My friend Alanna is going to do the 5k with me – our plan is to continuously alternate jogging 60 seconds and walking 60 seconds. Slowly but surely, we are gonna do this thing!
Now let me tell you something that pains me, Bloggy Buddies – I am 12 pounds overweight. Aaaagh!! So here’s the deal, if you guys want me to keep baking (and surely you do, why else would you be here?) then you gotta help keep me on track. My goal is to run (or use the elliptical machine, if it ever makes it’s way to our house – DAVID!) at least 3 times a week from here until, well, at least 12 pounds have dropped off of me. And I need to go ahead and *not* bake anything just for me n Dave until that goal has been reached, too. Uuugh. Good thing I’ve got a cake order for next weekend or I might not have anything tasty to blog about!
So. Feel free to give me little nudges from the “Peanut Gallery” – leave me a comment or tweet periodically and ask how the running’s going, or if my scale is breathing any easier, or if I’ve downsized my pants lately. Ya know. Just don’t be too harsh, or I’ll have a meltdown and then soothe myself with chocolate, thereby compounding the problem. 😀 And whatever you do, please, PLEASE don’t send me any dishes recommended by Katie O! Do go check that link out, though – pretty hilarious.
Here we go…..
Oh yeah, did I mention it’s INSANELY HOT AND HUMID IN FLORIDA?!
It was nice knowin’ ya,

I think it is wonderful that you are doing this 5K run and will be rooting you on to the finish line. However….I don’t feel that you are overweight. You just gave birth a little over 2 months ago and your body is still adjusting itself from your pregnancy.
It’s great that you want to get back into pre-pregnancy shape and doing this 5K will help. Just be a little patient with your body (especially if you are nursing) and try not to be too critical of yourself.
Good luck with the race 🙂
seriously? 12lbs? okay sweets…you had a baby. A BABY! are you kidding? i WISH i was only 12lbs over weight! ha!
and the fact that you’re already doing a 5k is tremendous! now can you send some of that motivation my way? i can’t even remember the last time I worked out. yikes!
good luck tomorrow! know you’ll do great!
You are nuts. All I’ve had are food babies and I still don’t run. Because running is insane. But good luck… drink lots of fluids… and remember le bebe is at the finish line.
I have the best bloggy buddies! Thank you, Paula, Katie n Brooke!
I know it’s going to be slow, and that I shouldn’t get too crazy about losing weight right now since I’m still nursing Dani, but I gotta set a goal and get working on it NOW because if I don’t, the holidays will be here before I know it and we all know I’m gonna be making and EATING all kinds of wonderful fat-filled deliciousness from October-December. So if I don’t get a start on the weight issue before then, I’ll be a blimp by new year’s. Doh.
LOL! Becki, you look like you are in agony in that picture! But I know you love running. And, well, running loves you, too. You just need to rekindle your romance with the road or treadmill. Also, not that this is anything realistic for a baking diva such as yourself to do BUT cutting out the carbs and sugar will practically scare the pounds off of you. No bread, pasta, beans, potatoes, juice, or fruit for a month. Just veggies, dairy, nuts and meats…veggies, dairy, nuts and meats. It works,… I am living proof. You too can achieve your dreams. BEEFCAKE!!!!!! Good luck and remember to HAVE FUN! Don’t take it too seriously. 😉
Hah! Thanks, Laura. 🙂 Uh, yeah, I’d lose weight in no time if I cut out bread, pasta, beans, potatoes, juice AND fruit. Cripes woman, that’s all I live on! Just kidding. Sort of. I’m definitely gonna cut back on those items, but it’s not realistic for me to get all hard-core on them right now. I’m still nursing the wee one, and David and Lauren would both run away from home if I stopped serving those items…and if I serve them and don’t eat them we will all suffer the wrath of my frustration.
Sooo…moderation is the key here.
And here I was bloggin’ so pitiful about exercise. You sound “pumped up!” You can do it. I didn’t know you had a blog ….. just found it on facebook. I’ll let you be my mentor and check back to see how you’re doing. Maybe I’ll get a spark from your zeal. GO! GO! GO!
Thanks, Norma!!
I have faith in you. Once you decide to do something you give it your all. Just remember, if you have to stop, it doesn’t mean you are a failure. You are just getting back into it and nothing good happens over night. Patience, my dear.
As far as your weight, I think you look great. With that being said, we all have a number that we think is our perfect number. I do agree with Laura, cutting back on carbs and eating some good proteins and whole grains will make the weight fall off. I have about 25lbs to lose, but about 10 years ago, I did lose down to my desired size by following that type of plan. And I’m ready to do it again.
As far as baking, you do such beautiful work and enjoy it so much, so – do it for gifts and for extra money and have an occasional splurge without worry.
Maybe we can encourage each other.
Love from your MIL.
We can definitely encourage each other. You are the best!!
GOOD LUCK on your 5k!! you can do itttttt!! and i know you can shed those 12 lbs too 🙂 you have a goal and you’ll reach it! good luck!
