I Love My New Running Music

by Becki D on August 13, 2009

I finally added some new music to my MP3 player yesterday (I have been running to the same handful of songs for a year now!) and I am so glad that I did.  I spent more time than I am willing to say searching Google for “running song playlists” and weeded through lots of music before giving up at 10 new songs.  Guess I’m pretty picky!  Who would have thought??

Oh, and after eating my fabulous Game Hens tonight, I almost didn’t go running.  But I turned to David and said something along the lines of *burp* “Excuse me.  I don’t think I’m going to run tonight, after all.”  And the love of my life, borrowing from April’s tactics, said “Oh.  I bet they’ll serve chocolate cupcakes on the loser wagon, too.”

OK, I needed that.  But ouch!

So I got out there and put in two miles this evening.  I could have gone further (no really, I could have!  Oozing essence of Game Hen and everything!) but I ran out of daylight.  And hey, two miles is WAY BETTER than no miles!

Anyhow, back to the music.  My favorite new track is one that I thought I was going to like the least because it’s what I would call Trance music.  But maybe it’s actually something else, I don’t know.  I’m no music buff.  Most of the recommended running songs I found in my Googling lead me to trance/dance/techno type stuff which I don’t really care for.  But maybe I will give more of them a try since I like this one so well.  It’s called “Outrun (No Speed Limit Remix)” by Peter W, and it’s got race car sounds sprinkled here and there throughout it, and the beat is perfect.  It starts out with a good medium running pace and kicks it up to a medium/fast running pace that just carries me along.  I am excited about running with this song again!

My other favorite of the new songs is toooo funny – “Holding Out For Hiro” by the great Luke Ski.  It’s a parody of “Holding Our For A Hero” by Bonnie Tyler, and it’s all about the television show “Heroes.”  It’s got a great tempo, and it also distracts me and even brings a smile to my beet-red face.  Gotta love it!  Some of the lyrics:

Orphaned son Mohinder
Found his father's maps and graphs.
Now Sylar's killing down the list,
Like PokeMon for sociopaths. (Sylar: Gotta catch 'em all!)
Will the emo male nurse sponge-boy
Stop his mad pursuit?
He'll need help from a Superman,
In a sharp Armani suit.

Or you can read them all and hear the song here.

Dodging the loser wagon,

Becki

I gotta admit: I don’t like trance music much, either (and I’m a big music buff). It just sounds so…synthetic, I guess.

I’m amazed you hadn’t changed your playlist for that long! But (I guess, since running music is my thing) I tend to mix it up a lot. It’s funny how certain songs will remind you of running, though, once you’ve taken them out for a few spins. The whole “oh yeah, I’m usually dying by this part” feeling is funny–especially when you hear the song in your car, or somewhere non-running oriented.
